Annabelle, Alana, Sophie, Emily, Ellie, Emily and Lucy, celebrating their awards at the Cecchetti Summer School for Young Dancers, held at Tring in Hertfordshire. The summer school runs for a week each year, offering top quality tuition in all dance disciplines, culminating with a choreographic competition in which the students showcase their own work. In the group section, Annabelle, Sophie and Emily’s choreography ‘Cat In The Hat’ (working with friends from other dance schools too) was given the Special Award, with Emily G’s group (again formed with other friends from elsewhere) taking 2nd place with their dance ‘Nocturnal Territories’. Lucy, Elllie and Alana’s choreography ‘Psyche Sisters’ was placed 3rd in the Trio section. Emily Pohl was awarded the Ballet Cup. Lucy Webster was awarded the Abigail Kessel Award along with a half scholarship for 2014 summer school. Emily Galvin was awarded a half scholarship for next year’s summer school in 2015. Lucy writes: “I was extremely honoured to find that I had been awarded the half scholarship for this year’s summer school – this was my second year at Tring and it is such a special experience. Everyone is friendly and welcoming, and it feels like one big dancing family; oh and it is brilliant fun too! The teaching is amazing and inspiring and you learn something new in every single lesson. Each class lasts 1hr 15mins and there is a ballet lesson every day as well as repertoire, jazz, musical theatre, contemporary, classical greek, historical dance, character, Spanish and this year there was also Irish dancing which was fantastic. There are 4 classes each day, with time to work on your choreography afterwards. The food is delicious too! The week went far too quickly and I’m really, really looking forward to going back next year.” For more information please see http://www.cecchetti.co.uk/summerschools/youngdancers/index.php
